Hey Portugal - Food and Wine

Food and Wine In Central Portugal

Food is one of the greatest loves in Portugal and the Portuguese way of life revolves around eating and drinking with friends and family at mealtimes and every chance in-between. Here we indulge your taste buds with the following categories.

Wendy's Cookbook

From traditional Portuguese cooking to what to do with the produce you get from the garden (or neighbours) to some of the tried and tested favourites from Holland and the UK. The Portuguese are very traditional about the way they cook but dishes vary greatly from town to town, find your favourite way of cooking Portuguese food.

We will be having contributions from Ana Patuleia Ortins the author of Portuguese Homestyle Cooking (Available from Amazon, click the banner at the top of this page).

Markets

This is already the most comprehensive list of Markets in Central Portugal . If you cannot find the day of your local market here then please let us know and we will add it.

Eating Out

Here you will find reviews and views about Cafes and Restaurants in Central Portugal. Also some tips about and how to get by when there is no-one who speaks your language. Explanations of popular Portuguese dishes and some that are not so popular but very worthwhile trying all the same.

Drinks of Portugal

This could be a whole website on its own, with literally hundreds of different Portuguese grape varieties. Here in Central Portugal we have many good vineyards, we have the Ribatejo Wine Routes that we will be talking about. We also live in between 2 of the finest wine producing areas in Portugal, The Duoro and The Alentejo where many good wines come from and we would be remiss if we did not talk about these areas too. We will have information about boat tours up the Duoro River and visits to some of the big Adegas.
We will also include information about the many other drinks available in Portugal, such as Aqua Dente and Madronha, and even Coffee.
