Turinta Map of Portugal (Europe Series)
A map is a map – or is it?
The Turinta Map of Portugal – One of a series of eight covering Europe - tries to go beyond being just folding map and offers the user some extra useful features. The map is not highly detailed being a scale of 1:600.000 or 1cm to 6km, so it does not get down to the finer points and show all the villages; they have another series of maps in more detailed scale. That said, the map is an excellent route planner and provides all of the major points on your journey and because of its’ size, you can use it in the car without preventing the driver from seeing through the windscreen as you unfold it.
In general, the map shows between 40 and 60km into Spain, so you can navigate over the border should you wish to leave Portugal. On the reverse of the map, you are supplied town centre navigation maps for 17 of the major cities in Portugal including Vila Real, Coimbra, Viseu and Aveiro.
The extra bonus for this map is that you get an index booklet attached in to the inside cover of the map. This 48 page booklet contains an index of place names with a key showing the location on the map and a quick guide on how to use this key. There is also a chart showing the distances between the major cities. The front half of the booklet has a list of recommended Hotels and Restaurants with a star rating. Many of these locations are numbered and have corresponding points on the map as well as a grid reference so if you want to find a particular restaurant on the map, it is easy to locate.
One other important thing to note is that the Key and Index are in Portuguese, French, German and English and the hotel reviews are supplied in Portuguese and English.
