This Gastronomic Dictionary by Thomas Harmsworth Publishing is a little gem and everyone should have one.
This little book is designed to allow diners to make sense of Portuguese Menus, from a variety of Portuguese speaking countries.
Portuguese is spoken on 4 continents and has 3 times as many words as Spanish, so do not be surprised to find a term used that you do not hear locally. If terms are specifically Brazilian then this is stated clearly.

As well as Portuguese menu items and dishes it also covers many kitchen implements, cooking terms and ingredients so it is very useful when you want to try following a Portuguese recipe or when you are shopping in the supermarket.
To keep it small it is only Portuguese to English, but for the purpose it is intended that is fine. It is small, really pocket/handbag size and should be kept with you whenever you are eating out or food shopping, it is especially useful in the butchers or fish shop.
Hey Portugal has a small stock of these little books, as you cannot buy them in Portugal. We can offer them to you at a discounted price of €5 (plus €1 Postage to Portugal or €1,50 to UK or other EU country) or contact us to find out where you can get one from us when we are out and about in central Portugal.
