From 8 December to 8 January, the village of Penela spreads the magic of Christmas for all the visitors with Penela Presépio.

The initiative is promoted by the Penela Camara and 2011 is the fifth consecutive year it has taken place. There is something for all age groups, Penela expects to receive more than 100 000 visitors during the fair. There are a variety of 'cribs' around the castle from traditional to more alternative. It also extends to Espinhal where you will find a traditional Nativity scene.

The indoor crib, created by Jaime Roxo, which stretches for 600 square meters, has more than 120 animated figures. 

There is the Mercadinho Christmas (Christmas Market), with a varied selection of local crafts and local food.

Traditional Crib in Espinhal

Five minutes from Penela, in the Village of Espinhal, is set up a traditional crib covering 260 square meters, representing the whole parish with near scale models of the typical figures and the natural heritage.

Located at Quinta do Castelo you will find the crib details all the parish and its people. There are dozens of figures and more than 40 houses from the wind farm and shops, not forgetting the band, the procession, the fountains, the stream of Watermill and mills. Also the cascade of water and the  Louçainha River Beach are represented and animated with a watercourse.
