Estradas de Portugal announced on Friday (28th October, 2011) that the toll collection in the first three subsections of the IC3, between the A23
and exit for Santa Cita (Tomar) will come into force next Tuesday, November 1, 2011. The A23, A24 and A25 have still not been finalised but will start sometime in November 2011.
In a statement, the company says the IC3 has been converted into A13 (motorway) in the sub-concession Pinhal Interior, having undergone improvement works in equipment safety, signage and telecommunications. The route will have available monitoring and assistance available (24 hours / seven days a week).
According to the statement, the amount of Toll levied on the A13 are now 5 cents (class 1), 10 cents (class 2), 15 cents (class 3) and 20 cents (class 4) between the output node of the A23 and the node of the Atalaia, values are 35, 60, 75 and 80 cents, respectively, in the section between the Atalaia and Asseiceira, and 40, 65, 85 and 95 cents, between Asseceira and Santa Cita.
The tolls on the A13 are Electronic only tolls. See our article Tolls of SCUT Motorways in Portugal for payment details.
It seems now that they do plan to add tolls to the whole route of the IC3/A13 from Entroncamento to Coimbra. This does not correlate with the initial announcement of this route, that it would prosperity and better communication links to the region, this will only be an improvement for the people and businesses who can afford to pay the Toll charges.
