4.0 Quake in Silves, Algarve

The Institute of Meteorology advises Hey Portugal that on the Saturday 26th March 2011 at 07:36 they recorded at Seismic monitoring stations, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 (Richter), whose epicenter was located about 12 km North-Northeast Silves

This earthquake, according to the information available so far caused no damage or injury and was felt with maximum intensity IV (modified Mercalli scale) in the region of Monchique, Silves, Albufeira and Lagoa. It was also felt to a lesser extent elsewhere in the Algarve and Alentejo.

Developments can be monitored through the web page of IM (www.meteo.pt) and any recommendations obtained from the National Civil Protection Authority (www.prociv.pt).
