Temperature will plummet over the next 5 days as the anticyclone located over central Europe, that is carrying a
mass of cold and dry air, reaches Portugal.
The cold air will reach us as early as tomorrow (Thursday 2nd February) in the northern regions, and then Friday throughout the whole country.
The Center for Weather Forecasting (The Institute of Meteorology) has confirmed the information provided in last Monday, predicting a fall in minimum temperature between 5 ° C and 8 ° C throughout the three days from Friday.
This means that by the early hours of Saturday the minimum temperature is expected to reach -8 ° C in Bragança, -1 ° C in Porto, -7 ° C in Penhas Douradas, 2 ° C in Lisbon, -2 ° C in Beja and 3 ° C in Faro.
The wind will be a weak to moderate northeasterly, which will have a wind chill effect making things feel even colder, especially in the highlands, where it is expected to blow moderate to strong.
The IM expects that this cold weather will continue until Sunday and then there will only be a gradual increase in minimum temperatures. We will continue to observe very low temperatures, below the normal levels for this time of year.
If temperatures drop very low in your area the think about your old neighbours and check on them to make sure they are prepared for the cold weather.
