Portugal will cut 4 Public Holidays from the calendar from 2013

I was announced by the government last week that 4 of the 14 public holidays will be removed from Portugals holiday calendar from 2013 for aperiod of 5 years, in an aim to boost productivity in the country. Two are state holidays and two are Catholic holidays, these have only been removed after discussion and agreement by the Catholic Church.

Corpus Christi - It is celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday (between mid May and mid June depending on Easter)

October 5 - the celebration of the formation of the First Republic in 1910 folowing the demise of the monarchy,

All Saints Day (November 1)

December 1 - Celebrated the Restauracion of Independence from Spain in 1640, after 60 years of Spanish rule.
