How could the currency market affect my overseas pension payments?

The recession first hit the financial markets in winter 2008 and once this happened we saw the pound lose significant value against a host of major currencies.

However towards the middle of last year (2014) we saw the pound experience a significant rally hitting levels not seen for 18 months; this was short lived as investors’ risk appetites were reduced once the focus moved back towards the fragile nature of the UK’s recovery.

The current method for establishing the taxable values of property in Portugal was introduced with effect from 1st January 2004. This valuation is the base for the annual municipal property tax (IMI), it also sets the minimum value for property purchase tax (IMT) and the stamp tax (IS) (IS is paid on purchase, gift or inheritance or property).

Algarve International Fair

The Algarve International Fair takes place atHey Portugal Stand at Algarve Fair the Fatacil Showground in Lagoa in Central Algarve over the first weekend of June.

This event, which has been taking place for a number of years, is organised by the Portugal News Group. According to Director Paul Luckman, in 2010 there were even more visitors than the 11,000 people that attended in 2009.

Hey Portugal had a stand at the 2010 show and we had a great time and made plenty of new friends. It was great to put some faces to those people that we had been talking to on the phone or by e-mail.

The reception was fantastic and many were curious to know why you can't say Hello any more. There were a surprising amount of peoplewho did not even realise where Central Portugal is, they seem to think it is the Alentejo! many said they would like to visit and asked about what type of accomodation was available.
